Laureus USA Executive Director Joanne Pasternack Joins Athletes and Leaders at ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards and ESPYs
“On July 15 and 16, I had the privilege of representing Laureus USA at the ESPN Sports Humanitarian Awards and the ESPYs – two days filled with powerful storytelling, meaningful recognition, and deep conversations about the role of sport in building a more equitable world.”
Joanne was honored to be joined by an inspiring group of Laureus allies and changemakers, including:
- Nadia Comăneci – Olympic champion and Laureus Academy Member
- Bart Conner – Olympic champion and longtime advocate for youth development
- Eric Reid – NFL legend, athlete activist, and social justice leader
- Lonnie Ali – Co-Founder, Muhammad Ali Center, Philanthropist, and widow of Muhammad Ali
- Odessa Jenkins – Founder of the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC) and champion for equity in sport
“Each of them embodies the values we champion at Laureus – courage, integrity, and the belief that sport can transform lives.”
A highlight of the week was announcing our new partnership with @ESPN in support of their Take Back Sports initiative. This collaboration is rooted in our shared commitment to reclaiming the spirit of sport for young people – making it safer, more inclusive, and centered on joy, connection, and growth.
As shared by Kevin Martinez, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship at ESPN, “At a time when youth sports too often mirror the pressures and inequities of the adult world, Take Back Sports is a rallying cry for change.” Together with ESPN, Laureus is working to return sport to what it’s meant to be – a place where every child feels seen, supported, and inspired to be their best self. I’m so excited for what we’ll build together.
We left the week feeling energized by the momentum behind this movement – and grateful for the growing coalition committed to putting purpose back at the heart of play.
